Steps of Achievement

Our two little munchkins are growing to fast for their mommy.  Yet she joys in their trumps and success right along with them.  The last two week in April on many occasions Mikyla told me "Pooh potty," or responded in an affirmatively "yes" when I asked if she needed to go.  She then ran to the bathroom and... Ta da!  We claped and cheered and everyone is happy!  Mikyla does a little hop dance around the bathroom.  I do too as she's one step closer to getting rid of diapers!  She's was only 15 months then and so I hadn't really begun training her because I think she's too little.  Yet she thinks differently.  I think her success are a product of her desires to be like her brother.  ( And really, lets face it... who wants to have poopy pants!)   Ever since Miklya could walk she'd follow Ethan everywhere.

Unconsciously I put too IKEA potties side by side in the bathroom so whenever Ethan had to go, Mikyla would joyfully sit beside him on her potty.  Two months ago (Feb 18) I sat her on the potty just to see what she'd do and she pooped.  Then in March, during mid diaper change she ran way from me to join her brother in the bathroom.  Subsequently she sat on the potty and peed.  Ethan and I where both shocked and excited!  Maybe Miklya is telling me something... humm...potty train time?!?

Over the past two weeks Mikyla has turned into a dare devil at the pool.  She loves running around in the deep end were she can barely touch.  Jumping around and splashing are fun but even 'funner' is throwing herself forward under the water.  Good thing mom is glued to her.  Each time I brought her out of the water she had a hug smile on her face.  Now when she does this in the tot pool she picks herself right back up.  She's a fishy!

Ethan is one smart little man in our eyes.  He wrote the letter "A" all by himself on at the end of April.  Since then he's also written the letters t and H.  He can name all the letters of the Alphabet with their sound.  I attribute this to the Leap Frog DVD which teaches the phoneme of the Alphabet.  Ethan has increased speed on his run bike and looks forward to the day when he can have peddles like Mom and Dad.
Last week Ethan went down the Green slide at the Taber Aqua Fun Center.  He was nervous but then continued to go over and over again with his Daddy.  This week he spend the majority of the our 2 hours at the slide and jumping off the diving board.

Ok, maybe this was a little bit of brag time on my part, but hey, if I don't brag about them who will?

Kidlets in Motion

BIKING... The moment we arrived in Taber Ethan was itching to jump on his bike.   (As you can see from the picture above he would ride any change or place mom would let him. ) The park was only a 3min ride from our house, the post office 5min, Pharmacy 8min, grocery store 8min, key cutting place 10 min, the pool 12min and so Ethan's biked all over the down town of Taber... with mom right behind him, of course.  While watching Ethan from the chariot, Mikyla developed the urge to ride too.  Yet the run bike Ethan had was just too big for her.  And so, Daddy, being the excellent shopper he is, picked up a tricycle for $5 while he was in Calgary at the beginning of April. Mikyla was so excited! Her little legs scurried along the ground trying to keep up with her big brother.  When fatigue set in, mom was grateful there was a push handle at the back of her bike and a push out foot rest for Mikyla's feet.  These 'can't live without' features saved mom's back and Mikyla little leg time and time again.  Especially since the kidlet wanted to go to the park just about every day our first week in Taber.

THE PARK...The Lion's Park near our home is perfect! It's small but it's the only park I've found so far with a big kid swing right next to a baby swing which is ideal when both munchkins want to swing at the same time.  Under-duckies or Under-doggies, however you say it is a constant request by both my high flyer at the park.

Monkeying around at Confederation Park

We don't have a backyard at our new place and so the front grass and concrete walkway outside our door is a common place for our kids to ride their bike and run.  Sadly Mikyla fell and skinned her for head and nose on the pavement two week ago.  You can see the remnants of this tough too-too riding girl in the picture below.

BOXES & MORE... Playing is boxes is always a blast!  A couple weeks ago, the kids found some of our packing boxes that hadn't made it to the storage unit.  Not only was climbing in and out of the boxes fun but of course hitting each other with foam swords was the highlight. Mikyla got mad however, when she decided chewing on the sword was more fun and Ethan wasn't giving up the sword fit.

MESSY FUN... How much fun can flour, oatmeal, some bowls and spoons be for kids?  Well... Ethan and Miklya sure loved it!  Measuring, pouring, feeling soft and crunchy texture, but of course theirs also throwing it and making a mess!  What kid doesn't like a mess!  I liked it because not only is it fun, but it's educational as well!  Being the nerd I am sometime, I put on a kids online clip about Craters and how their formed on the moon.   On the clip the kids made their own crater with flour, coco powder and marbles.  They took a large flat container and poured flour into it and smoothed it out.  Coco powder was then dusted on top.  Then they dropped marbled from different height to see the different sized of crater they could make.  Ethan and Mikyla both thought throwing the ball was the coolest.

SUPERHERO'S...Now Rainy Days and weeks cause kids to go squirrelly and mom's to go crazy.  So to combat the insanity this week we taped, traced, coloured, dressed up and ran around.  Take a look!  Ethan and Mikyla were so proud of their life like look a-like's! :)
NOTE:  As you may notice, their excitement made it very difficult for them to stay still for a picture.

Actually at our house any day is super hero day!  Check out Captain Backwards Underpants in the background along with the amazing Super Girl!
